Mission Updates at VHBC

This has been a busy month of missions educations and participation! Our children celebrated a year of learning and participating with GAs and RAs missions engagement! As a church we hosted representatives from local and foreign mission organizations doing good work in the world! We were blessed to have Sam Harrell, founder of Africa Exchange and CBF Coordinator for Global Missions with us. Africa Exchange is a new mission partnership for VHBC. Through Sam’s words we were inspired by the work of this ministry and the small and large ways we can come alongside and partner together.

If you missed this international mission educational engagement, please follow this link to see the ways Africa Exchange is partnering with African communities to provide clean water, healthy initiatives,  economic development and preschool education. Please be in prayer for Luke McBrayer has he engages with Africa Exchange’s cross cultural experience travelling to Kenya and witnessing the good works and good relationships being fostered by our mission partner.

In May, we were excited to welcome Casey Hobbs of Urban Ministries Birmingham to come and share with us the exciting work happening in our hometown. We were moved by the stories he shared and the work being done to support children and families in Birmingham's West End. It was fascinating to see the mission strategy of Africa Exchange and Urban Ministries Birmingham mirror one another- focus on children and education, community development, access to clean water and food. Locally and globally we have an opportunity to partner with these organizations and live out Jesus' command to love our neighbor.

Please see this message from Casey with volunteer needs for their summer camps:

Urban Ministries WE Learn program is transitioning for the summer into a day camp. From 8:30-3:30 children from the neighborhood will be working on STEAM curricula, learning about the garden and their neighborhood's history, and, of course, having fun! Here's where we need YOU!

Each volunteer who serves in our WE Learn program will make a lifetime of impact on your neighbors in West End. Your engagement is crucial to making this program work!

To that end, we are hosting a new volunteer training on Monday, June 6th, from 9-11 at Urban Ministry. Our program starts the following week and we can't wait to get you ready for the summer ahead!

RSVP by emailing Casey@urban-ministry.org.
